11th Annual Awards & Reunion Banquet - 2005

Bytown Brigantine’s 11th Annual Awards & Reunion Banquet was a great success once again. We were out at the Loch March Golf and Country club this year and had a turnout of 190 people.

A big “Thank You” to all these people and business who donated items for the silent auction thus helping us raising money for the Thomas G. Fuller Bursary for Youth.

Captain Gillespie as the target in the 'Ring the Captain' game. The cocktail hour saw friends, young and old, getting reaquainted and catching up amid a flurry of noisy activity downstairs in the clubhouse while people checked out the silent auction items upstairs. The activities downstairs involved games of chance and skill: for a nominal fee participants got to try their hand at landing a grommet (a ring) on toy boats to get their name in a draw for a prize. The more adventurous could opt to try to "ring the captain" by floating a much larger ring (actually a blow up kisby ring) over the captain's head. There were lots of laughs and a lot of fun.

The silent auction tables are quite after just being setup.Upstairs once dinner got underway there was a steady stream of people to the auction tables checking their bids. Once the delicious dinner, prepared and served by Loch March staff, was over the bid sheets were pulled and the winners of the various items were determined as the presentations (see below) were made. There were a lot of nifty items, and even a few "gently used" donations, too. Everything went except for the one model boat centrepiece on the table at the back. That the was the table at which the board of directors working the silent auction were sitting. They must have been too busy to fill in the bid sheet. All told the silent auction raised approximately $3,100 for the Captain Thomas G. Fuller Bursary for Youth. It was a huge success again this year and we give many thanks to Louise Dugas for obtaining donated items and organizing the silent auction.
