12th Annual Awards & Reunion Banquet - 2006

Bytown Brigantine’s 12th Annual Awards & Reunion Banquet was held at the Loch March Golf and Country Club Friday, September 8, 2006.  Once again crewmates young and old alike were reunited to have a nice meal, catch up, swap stories (some of which might even have been true) and raise some money for the Captain Thomas G. Fuller Bursary for Youth.

A big “Thank You” to all these people and business who donated items for the silent auction thus helping us raising money for the Thomas G. Fuller Bursary for Youth.
“Thank you” also to all the people who bid and won items in the auction.

Once again the silent auction tables were full of goodies to be bid on and won.  The meet and greet hour saw friends, young and old, getting reaquainted and claiming their tables for the dinner.  Once the food came out getting things rolling the introductions were made: the head table, members of Board of Directors and ships crew.

Framed pictures and plaque Simon Fuller presented to Manuel.During the most memorable presentation, Simon Fuller, the President of Bytown Brigantine, Inc., got a bit choked up as he reminisced about all the help and hard work the carpenter, Manuel, did in the employ of Captain Fuller, and now for Simon and Bytown Brigantine. Simon related stories of how Manuel was there back in 1985/86 when Simon was preparing Black Jack to go to New York City for the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Manuel also played a key part in preparing Black Jack for her 100th anniversary in 2004. After all those years of service he was finally retiring, but not before showing his son a few things on the job aboard Fair Jeanne getting her ready for the Silver Jubilee Voyage!  As a token of appreciation Simon presented Manuel with a framed plaque, a pictures of Black Jack and Fair Jeanne, and a picture of Manuel at work on Black Jack. There were a few standing ovations, and not a few dry eyes in the audience.

As the dinner plates were pulled and dessert and coffee tucked into, the silent auction bid sheets were pulled and the winners of the various items were determined as the achievement presentations (see below) were made. There were a lot of nifty items, and even a few "gently used" donations, too. All told the silent auction raised approximately $2,000 for the Captain Thomas G. Fuller Bursary for Youth. It was a huge success again this year and we give many thanks to Louise Dugas for obtaining donated items and organizing the silent auction.
