12th Annual Bytown Brigantine Golf Tournament Fundraiser 2007

On Monday, September 24 2007, Bytown Brigantine held its 12th Annual Golf Tournament at Loch March Golf and Country Club. In its twelfth year, we want to sincerely thank everyone who has joined us over these last years, especially the players and donors who have participated in every one!

Well, we were blessed with the weather. It really was “A Great Day at Loch March”. Following the rules of “Murphy’s Law”, we were joined by Donnie Leafloor (The Rain Man) outside on the patio, (just in case of rain!), and many participants enjoyed relaxing at the end of their golf games on the patio and the staff had a great time. I believe if you had stopped in at the right moment, you would have heard Victor Bode (the gentleman responsible for our meals every year) singing along with Donnie!

Participants registering were given this year’s gift: an emergency auto tool. The tool has an LED white light, emergency light, seat belt cutter, whistle, air bag punch, emergency glass breaker and a magnetic mount for the car roof top.

We were very fortunate to be able to offer a car (to keep, not leased) from Reid Brothers, in Arnprior. This year, at Hole #13 we had the betting boats, ably manned by Osie Blouin and Irene Leger. Apparently it was quite competitive amongst some groups however no one was able to win! One player from Brockville did manage to get a ball into a boat, but it bounced out again.

All teams either finished or went to enjoy the music and company on the patio or in the Clubhouse, and at 7 p.m., after cocktails, went upstairs. Thanks to the volunteers and Board members who decorated the room so beautifully. Dinner was served to over 130 people, enjoying Cream of Butternut Squash and Apple Soup, Roast Beef, and Chocolate Mousse, accompanied by red and white wine, tea and coffee - another great meal served at Loch March! Donations from Hersheys included mint patties, nuggets and kisses, which were placed on every table, and disappeared just as quickly!

Our MC this year was Jerry Lowe whose usual humour was much appreciated! He then introduced Simon Fuller, President of the Foundation. Simon updated our guests on what Bytown Brigantine has been doing over the past year. A big thank you was given to all the supporters of the Golf Tournament for attending, and donating prizes and money, to enable the Thomas G. Fuller Bursary to continue to offer sail training to youth.

Simon spoke about the Silver Jubilee voyage, the new Brockville Maritime Discovery Centre and the number of children who are given an opportunity through the bursary program to have the experience of a lifetime in our summer programs – 44 this year alone.

Jerry Lowe helped us again this year, and obtained some great prizes from Molsons and Lafarge, who have been terrific supporters of the tournament every year. A number of prizes were “pre-raffled” as we were so fortunate to receive many items. Some of the prizes available were:

  • Hole-in-Prize provided by Reid Bros. Motor Sales Limited
  • Coleman Cooler, Golf Bag, Hockey Bag, Guitar from Molson
  • Sleeve of Golf Balls for each player from Petrela Burns
  • Portable GPS from Petrela Burns
  • Wine Fridge from Quelmec Adjusters
  • Golf Bag from Lafarge
  • Senators Tickets from Capcorp and Sapacon
  • Ottawa 67s tickets from The Ottawa 67s

Also, there were: Ladies and Men’s Gift Packages from Hydro Ottawa, Golf Town certificates from Sapacon and Manulife, St. Louis Bar & Grill certificates, Hershey chocolates and treats, golf bags and balls, shirts, head covers - the gifts were too numerous to mention all of them. Thank you to everyone!

We would also like to thank Loch March, who donated the tournament costs - green fees, carts, lunch and dinner to the Thomas G. Fuller Bursary.

Thank you everyone for attending, donating and helping, and we look forward to seeing you next year on Monday September 29th, 2008.
