Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

On Monday, September 28, 2009, Bytown Brigantine held its 14th Annual Golf Tournament at Loch March Golf and Country Club.  Fourteen years of tournaments is an amazing achievement and we would like to thank everyone who has joined us over these last years, especially the players and donors who have participated in every one!

We were not able to escape the rain on the day, but everyone forged on and played until we called the game a half hour early so that everyone cold come in and warm up and dry off.

Participants registering were given this year's gift: an emergency car kit which will defiantly come in handy on some of those cold Ottawa winter days.

A record 118 players were registered and most refused to allow the weather to dampen their spirits.  The hole-in-one prizes included:

  • Hole #2 -a four-night holiday from Reid Brothers
  • Hole #7 - a four-night holiday get away from Reid Brothers
  • Hole #16 - a Cadillac from Reid Brothers in Arnprior. This vehicle was to keep, not just a lease!

Hole #13 was once again the sight for the betting boats where two of our dedicated volunteers watched eagerly as most people tried to chance the odds!

Dinner was served to over 120 people, enjoying Cream of Butternut Squash and Apple Soup, Prime Rib, and Apple Pie a la Mode, accompanied by red and white wine, tea and coffee - another great meal served at Loch March!

Simon updated our guests on what Bytown Brigantine has been doing over the past year including Fair Jeanne's trip to the east coast and the whalers involvement in the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Navy Dockyards in Halifax.  (Check out our pictures!)  He also mentioned that in 14 years, the proceeds from the golf tournaments exceed a quarter of a million dollars, and the funds have provided berths for some 500 trainees who otherwise would not have been able to attend.  Simon thanked all the supporters of the Golf Tournament for attending, and donating prizes and money, to enable the Thomas G. Fuller Bursary to continue to offer sail training to youth.
