Bytown Brigantine Academy
REACH AHEAD IN YOUR LOG BOOK LEVELS
These training programs are meant to provide an opportunity for keen sailors to reach ahead in their Bytown Brigantine Log Book Levels as well as learn important seamanship skills that they can bring with them on their future voyages with us or any other vessel. These Training Programs can be combined with a High School Credit Course for a 20% discount on the less expensive one of the two courses.
THE COURSES
September 5 2020 - June 7 2021
Junior and Intermediate Officer Training
This program is recommended for experienced BBI sailors age 15 and up looking to become a volunteer or even paid ship’s crew. It will focus on the advanced seamanship required of the service onboard our vessels and others. It will prepare students for the Transport Canada qualifications required of professional crew.

Leading Seaman Reach Ahead Program
This program includes the Small Boat Practical. Students will earn their Bytown Brigantine Leading Seaman, covering navigation, knot work, and other seamanship. Students will earn their Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card and Radio Operator’s Certificate. They will build all the skills needed to sail. The program will culminate with a sailing adventure using our Navy Whalers.

September 5 2020 - October 7
Small Boat Practical
Students will have the chance to get out on the water and work on their small-boat skills. They will earn a Bytown Brigantine Small Boat Endorsement, and after several weekends of practice will be able to navigate by sail, oar, or engine power. This is the first piece of the Seamanship Reach Ahead program, and can be taken by students in any other course.
