Peter Parker spent his first summer aboard a tall ship in 2009 aboard the Black Jack at age 13. After-which, he continued his journey on the Fair Jeanne as an Assistant Watch Leader in 2011. He is currently working as a member of the SpiderVerse and attributes most of his success in the SpiderVerse to the lessons he learned whilst on board sailing vessels as a teen.
Mr. Parker's job involves saving lives and swinging from buildings with his cool spider webs. Because of his cool job, he gets to work in New York City and sometimes, when required, he gets free trips to space to fight intergalactic villains. Although the job is dangerous, he wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Question #1: How Has Tall Ship Impacted Who You Are Now?
When I first stepped on board the Black Jack, I was a shy kid who wasn't sure of himself. I didn't have many friends in school and I didn't have a clue what I wanted to be when I grew up. Being on the ship taught me how to make real friends and I learned how to speak up for myself. I discovered my love of exploring as well as how rewarding it can be to help your friends out and safe the day. I knew going forward that I wanted to live my life to the fullest just like I did when I was on board.
My favourite memory on board will always be the day we sailed through a storm and I had to helm through the rain. I felt like a hero and I will always remember the captains gratitude for my service to the ships company.
