WE NEED YOU!

We may sail in the summer, but we operate year-round. We can only do this with the dedicated support of our volunteers. If you have a few hours a week to spare or even just a day or two, we would love to hear from you! No tall ship experience needed. Whatever your skills or interests, we can find a way to match them up with the vital work that keeps this program running. Earn your high school volunteer hours with us!

Short Term

Work Parties

Throughout the winter months, there is a lot of work and maintenance to be done on the ships. We often host work parties on weekends in Ottawa and/or Brockville. These are open to anyone interested in lending a hand, no experience needed!

Long Term

Our Board of Directors

Board meetings are held once a month to assist with the overall operations of BBI (the first Tuesday of each month).

How do I apply to be a volunteer?

Register with the links above. You can also email our registrar and ask to be added to our volunteer mailing list.

What are the basic requirements to be a volunteer?

  • 12 years old or older

  • Fluency in English

  • If over 18, must present a recent Police Records Check - Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Ability to safely commute to the volunteer locations (ie: BBI Office in Ottawa and Tall Ships Landing Marina in Brockville)

  • There are no physical requirements for the office jobs (ie: most tasks can be done seated) however the work parties will potentially require you to lift heavy objects. Contact us with other accessibility questions.

  • There is no minimum required number of volunteer days.

  • Read and understand the Tall Ships Adventure Standing Orders

  • There are no tall ship experience requirements, however, there are many tasks where your sailing knowledge could be helpful

Why should I volunteer for BBI?

You will be a part of an enthusiastic team of crew and volunteers, meet people who share a love for sailing and youth development, and have fun! Volunteering at our work parties is a great way to gain tall ship knowledge and experience. If you've sailed on one of our past voyages, this may be an opportunity to catch up with your friends from the past summer as well as complete some high school volunteer hours while you're at it!
