

GET YOUR HANDS ON THE RIGGING THIS FALL
Don't wait until next summer to see your friends and to make new ones! Bytown Brigantine Inc. Tall Ships Adventure is providing a fun and engaging opportunity for Alumni to further develop skills learned during the summer sailing season. From logbook lessons to hands-on experience, there is something new for everyone to learn!
THE PROGRAM
We’re excited to offer participants a hands-on training program focused on practical seamanship, rigging, and vessel maintenance.
Through real projects and workshop-style learning, participants will build valuable skills that prepare them for future roles aboard ship – particularly in rigging, maintenance, and bosun’s duties.
Specific skills and areas of focus include:

Advanced ropework: whippings, splicing, seizings, and serving

Running and standing rigging maintenance and inspection

Downrigging and end-of-season ship work

Rig inspection training (with the opportunity to become a Bytown Certified Rig Inspector)

Basic sailmaking and repair, including a diddy bag apprenticeship

Tool use and safe workshop practices

Leading and supporting work parties
-
Repair and maintenance skills

Risk management and safe working procedures
WHERE
All sessions and workshops will take place in person in Ottawa at our office, with additional work parties in Ottawa and Brockville as part of end-of-season vessel work.
WHEN
The program begins September 26th, 2026. Two Saturdays a month until December 19, 2026.
Work Parties: Scheduled throughout the program in alignment with vessel maintenance needs.
